4. “Frozen” from Ray of Light Released: March 4, 1998

This kicked off the Ray of Light era, and though the second single, the title track, got more attention, that doesn’t take away from the flawless execution and creativity of “Frozen.”  As I said before, with Number 9, Bedtime Story, Madonna had never gone somewhere like that before.  Well, this is the second time she went there.

These 2 videos do stand out among Madonna’s work because of the supernatural elements.  And they really are dark and light in comparison.  A little wicked witch vs. good witch action going on.  The effects are top-notch and the video is fun to watch.  It’s one of those you can watch over and over again and never get bored with.

The sound of the song was different for Madonna as was the video.  This was something we had never heard or seen from Madonna.  I remember my first college roommate commenting that it was different.  His sister was a die-hard Madonna fan, but he was not.  Sometimes people don’t take things from the mouths of fans, but when a none-fan says it — that’s objectivity!
